10 ways politics are blinding believers of Jesus

10 ways politics are blinding followers of Jesus

One thing that I don’t like about politics is how easy it is to accidentally get caught up in party loyalty instead of Christ-loyalty. If you’re not extremely careful you’ll end up identifying with, and even touting, anti-Christ platforms and ideals in the name of politics. When everyone is pointing fingers and name calling it is the knee-jerk reaction to feel like you have to choose a side. But you don’t. In fact, you shouldn’t. It is our job as Christians to be on the side of ALL humanity and when you start viewing everything from a “me vs. them” mindset you become more interested in defeating someone than rescuing them.

I’m not saying that you can’t belong to a political party, but just be sure that you don’t begin blindly following politicians or party ideals without weighing them against your commitment to Christ. Because I’ve never seen ANY political party that fully represented the kingdom of Heaven, and my loyalty lies with Christ first above all else. Regardless which side of the isle you find yourself on here are few things either one or both political parties seem to get wrong that we as believers need to be sure we get right (not in any particular order):

  1. Racism is always wrong and should never be defended.
  2. Sexual harassment is always wrong and should never be defended.
  3. Homosexuality, and every other sin, should inspire compassion in us for the deceived to find the path of life.
  4. Believers in false religions should inspire compassion in us for the deceived to find the path of life.
  5. Our compassion should motivate us to boldly proclaim the Gospel.
  6. Murder is always wrong and should not be defended.
  7.  Hatred for anyone is forbidden.
  8.  Forgiving others is a necessity if you desire to be forgiven yourself.
  9. To not treat others with respect is a direct violation of the scriptures.
  10. We have to stop just talking about praying, and actually start praying. There are far too many people claiming to pray that aren’t actually doing it. If everyone that actually said they were praying really did this nation would look very different.

Don’t feel obligated to violate one of these just because of the political party you belong to. You belong to a “party” that transcends republican or democrat, and when it’s government comes to power you’re going to wish you had chose to honor it’s platforms over our flawed U.S. political system.

Living to touch God’s heart,
