Mission Statement

"Lack of understanding of our impact on the emotional heart of God has led to a mass abandonment of the divine romance we were created for."

Our Mission

The Heart of Divine Romance Ministries

Did you know that in the Bible, God talked about being heartbroken by the unfaithfulness of His bride? Or that He expressed feelings of sorrow as He was forgotten about by His chosen people? Or that our sinful behavior can actually grieve the Holy Spirit? It can be difficult for us to wrap our minds around the idea that the omnipotent King of the universe is capable of experiencing these negative emotions, yet the Scriptures make it clear that He does.

The Bible reveals that God’s original and ultimate purpose for mankind was to provide a family for Himself and a Bride for Christ. In Ephesians 1:4-5 we see that even before the foundations of the earth were laid, God had already chosen us to be the focus of His love and to be adopted into His family. By choosing to make us the focus of His love, God, in His sovereignty, chose to enter into an emotionally vulnerable love relationship with us. Not vulnerable as in weak or capable of defeat, but simply vulnerable to feeling emotions such as heartbreak, sorrow, regret, and longing for His wandering bride. We were created in the image of God and every emotion we feel, every desire for companionship we experience is because it existed in Him first.

Due to the nature of love, it is impossible to love and not open yourself up to the possibility of pain and since Christ's ability to love is greater than ours, so is His capacity for hurt. When Christ chose us to be His bride, He chose to make Himself susceptible to rejection and all the emotions that come with it or conversely to the ecstasy of shared love with a covenant partner. We stand in the unique and honored position to be either His greatest joy or His greatest pain.

Lack of understanding of our impact on the emotional heart of God has led to a mass abandonment of the divine romance we were created for. Therefore, this ministry exists to awaken a generation to a depth of relationship with God where He not only comforts and protects us, but where we comfort and protect Him. If He is capable of experiencing pain by the rejection of His chosen people, then we possess the ability to rid Him of that pain by lavishing Him with our love and faithful devotion. He has given us the key to satisfying the ancient longings of His heart.

Our prayer is that the revelations you discover here will encourage you to embrace and revel in the invitation to intimacy that has been extended to you by the Bridegroom God and to take your place in the divine romance that you were created for.

How It Began

The night that started it all

Istill remember it like it was yesterday. Someone had just nudged me out of my sleep. I looked at the clock. It was exactly 3:00 AM. The room was empty. I instinctively knew that it was God that nudged me awake. I could feel it in my heart. As my mind focused the Lord began to speak to me in a surprisingly unique way. The things He said to me shocked me, honored me, and broke my heart all at the same time. I had never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would hear God speak these words.

God said, "Tonight someone that has been faithfully serving me for many years just decided that they don't want me in their life anymore, and has decided to walk away from our relationship. Would you mind getting up to just love on me and comfort me right now?"

God was was hurting, and He wanted ME to comfort Him...

Think about the implications of that:
One, that God hurts. This seemed a foreign concept to me. How could the all powerful King of the universe need to be comforted? Isn't He the one that's supposed to do the comforting? Just this idea of an emotional, even vulnerable God challenged every pre-conceived notion I had of who He was.

Two, this all-powerful King had selected ME to be the one who comforts Him. Every person has maybe 5 people tops that they know they can call on at any time, day or night, no matter what, that would be there for them in a time of trouble - just a hanful of people that you're close enough to call at 3AM when you're hurting. That night, I got to be one of those people for God. It was the greatest honor of my entire life. In that moment, I decided that I wanted to live the rest of my life for this very purpose: removing the pain from God's heart - lavishing Him with love and doing everything I can to be sure He never feels that way again. Not only does He want to awaken me, but my entire generation to who He is, how He feels, and how He longs to connect with us all, so that they too can protect His heart from ever experiencing that pain of rejection again.

After that night I spent a lot of time thinking about this new paradigm I had of God, but I was smart enough not to base my theology on an experience. I knew that theology was to be grounded in the Word of God. I knew that if what I had experienced was genuine that there would be evidence to back it up in the Bible. So I prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to reveal to me, through the Holy Scriptures, the truth of God's character, personality, emotions, and type of relationship He desires to have with us.

As I began my study scriptures began leaping at me off the pages that I had somehow never noticed before. Scripture after scripture of how a bride and groom are to be a picture of our relationship with Christ. Scripture after scripture of God experiencing emotions such as grief, regret, and even heartbreak. The same words that were used to describe breaking a vase, or breaking down a door, were the very words God used to describe the condition of His heart! I found such longing for His people, and a blatantly stated desire for romance with us! The truths that were revealed to me were heart-rending, deeply fulfilling, and incomprehensibly (unless you've experienced it for yourself) beautiful.

That study changed my life forever and set me on a journey that has led to the creation of Divine Romance Ministries. I've had many more intimate encounters with this beautiful, loving, and intimate God of ours since then, and our relationship just grows richer, and the revelations deeper. I so desperately want you to experience this divine romance, because I know that is what He desperately desires also.

The night that He woke me, I stayed up till sunrise singing worship songs and telling Him how much I cherish Him. Now God has given me the mission of drawing others into this divine romance and awakening their heart to unfathomable depths of love, ecstacy, fulfillment, and complete satisfaction through a relationship with Christ. This is your invitation to intimacy; won't you join me on this journey to touch God's heart?

About Chris Ulery

Chris Ulery - Divine Romance Ministries

Chris' Bio

Chris Ulery is an evangelist with a driving passion to raise a generation of true God lovers that live to touch God's heart. A former youth pastor and outreach director, Chris now travels as an itinerant minister. Chris was born into a pastor's family and began developing a passion for the Lord at an early age. As a young boy he would climb onto the fireplace steps and "preach" to anyone that would listen. By the time he was 12 he was playing drums for his church's praise and worship team and began leading worship as a young teenager.

After Chris graduated high school he began producing his father's television show "The Burning Heart" and then later went on to become a promotions producer for the Victory Television Network. While working for VTN Chris received the call to ministry. So he enrolled in a worship/evangelism school located in Nashville, TN where he was taught and trained by some of the nation's foremost ministry leaders such as Lou Engle, Rick Pino, and Scott Macleod. It was during this time in Nashville that country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs prophesied that Chris was to be "a communicator for the Kingdom of God." Chris began to receive invitations to minister around Nashville and after graduating felt led to return home to head up the outreach department of his hometown church. As outreach director Chris led teams into prisons, care centers, nursing homes, parks, and to the homeless on the streets. While in this position Chris was often given the pulpit to minister and began to develop a passion for preaching.

Then in late 2008 Chris was asked to go on tour with CCM music group NewFire. This eventually connected Chris with the opportunity to also begin touring for the chart-topping, Dove Award-winning music group FFH in early 2009. This led to a whirlwind season for Chris of TV performances, radio, and traveling coast to coast performing live for audiences of thousands. (Learn more about this under the worship ministry section of the events page) As Chris' travels continued to take him into churches all across the nation he felt led to pursue a speaking ministry and enrolled in world-renowned Rhema Bible Training College in Broken Arrow, OK. Chris graduated RBTC in 2013 (along with his now wife), received his ministry credentials, and became a member of the Rhema Ministerial Association International. After graduation Chris accepted the pastorate for Genesis youth, the student ministry of Legacy Family Church, where attendance multiplied more than tenfold under his leadership in under two years. Shortly after Chris took over the leadership of "Pulse", the Friday night outreach of the young adult ministry of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, OK, one of the largest young adult ministries in the nation.

Now Chris and Jessica enjoy traveling for Divine Romance Ministries inspiring others to live to touch God's heart, and helping them understand our profound impact on the emotional heart of God.
